As of March 23, 2010, OFMG has an ample supply of the 2009 H1N1 influenza vaccine, for all ages months and up. We will administer these shots to established patients on a walk-in basis Monday through Friday between 8am and noon, and between 2pm and 5pm. (It is possible that we may be out of vaccine at times. Call the office to check on availability before you come!)
The following groups are being targeted by the CDC to receive the H1N1 vaccine as soon as possible:
- Pregnant women
- Household and caregiver contacts of children younger than 6 months of age (e.g. parents, siblings, and daycare providers)
- Health care and emergency medical services personnel
- Persons from 6 months through 24 years of age
- Persons aged 25 through 64 years who have chronic medical conditions associated with a higher risk of influenza complications.
These are at highest risk for catching 2009 H1N1 influenza and suffering complications from it (e.g. pneumonia, hospitalization, or death). Therefore people in these groups need the vaccine most of all. (Please note that the vaccine cannot be given to babies less than 6 months old.)
However, the state of NC now has enough vaccine for everyone who desires it.
The H1N1 vaccine is separate from the "regular" or "seasonal" flu vaccine. Click here for info about "regular" flu vaccine.
